Artist Statement
Humberto Lemos has been a photographer for over 40 years, and his current practice is dedicated entirely to authorial photography. His work invites a contemplative gaze that slows down to observe landscapes stripped of urgency, narrative, or human presence. These are images that seem to belong to other worlds, where emptiness and silence are active forces within the frame. Traveling in search of photographs without fixed locations, Lemos creates what could be called imaginary landscapes: visual constructions that detach from geographic references and resist obvious associations. Through a minimalist approach, often shaped by Eastern philosophy and aesthetics, he constructs fields where emptiness reveals its own quiet magnitude. In series such as Windows, Stones, and Atemporal, what might first appear as simplicity unfolds into depth. Rocks, trees, water, and mist become elements of a visual grammar that speaks of stillness, presence, and the essential structures of the world.
